Plumbers and Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #21, will conduct a recruitment from February 20, 2024 through March 4, 2024 for 20 Plumber & Steamfitter apprentices and 5 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained in person and filled out on premises at Local Union #21, 1024 McKinley Street, Peekskill, NY 10566, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the recruitment period. Applications must be returned in person by 3:30 p.m. on March 4, 2024 at Local Union # 21. Applicants must pay a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee by cash, money order or credit card. NOTE: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof of transcript will be required at the time of enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must reside (for at least six months prior to application) within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #21, which Includes the counties of Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, and Westchester.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various Job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must take and pass a substance abuse test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
